About Mary Shea, LMFT
Welcome! I’m thrilled you’re here! I'm Mary Shea, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with SureHope Counseling & Training Center. My journey in mental health began with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, both earned from my beloved alma mater Virginia Tech.
My Approach & Expertise
For years, I've worked with families, children, and individuals, using Play Therapy and other evidence-based modalities to address a wide range of topics, including parenting, anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, attachment, self-esteem, family relationships, boundaries, and more. Over time, I realized my passion for sharing accessible mental health education with the community, which led me to focus on providing training and seminars.
I specialize in offering seminars, workshops, and presentations in churches and schools, with the goal of making mental health resources available to as many people as possible. For those who can't access one-on-one therapy for various reasons, these presentations serve as an invaluable first step, providing education and tools to promote mental wellness.
As a Christian counselor, I believe in the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit in the healing process. Each of my presentations integrates these aspects, offering both theoretical insights and practical solutions to common challenges. You can expect a balanced approach, grounded in both psychology and faith, in all of my work.
